“Això era l’era de Kan Kilis”: this is how it all started

The history of Kan Kilis is proof of its farming roots in a fishing-village origins. Grandfather Aquil·les opened a grocery and wine store in the early 1960s where, after modernising the store over the next few years, he roasted his first chickens in 1964. What began as side dish turned into our main course and our rotisserie will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year!

Where does the name Kan Kilis come from?

The house, known as "Can Quilis", was named after Grandfather Aquil·les. But more than 50 years ago a few German friends, who spent their holidays in L’Escala and often visited Aquil·les’ fields and olive groves, wrote him a letter with the name of Can Quilis spelled with a k: “Kan Kilis”. Aquil·les thought it was so funny that he decided to use it as the company name.

Who is behind Kilis?

The Kilis nickname has been passed down from father to son. The first Kilis was Grandfather Aquil·les, the founder of this family-run rotisserie. After serving in the military, Aquil·les’s son Josep entered the family business and, of course, was also known as Kilis. Now Jofre, the founder’s grandson, has taken the reigns of the rotisserie to continue offering chicken and other top-quality products cooked the same way as always.
